Project Description
The Nutcracker was an immersive piece of theatre for children and adults alike. The show took place in an art gallery in Sheffield, Bank Street Arts. Upstairs was the real world family home of the Silvertree family and downstairs was the creative world of Billy's brain. This show was a real design challenge as the audience would be free to move anywhere at look at everything as well as the fact that the rooms downstairs had to feel different and literally from another world. The end result was achieved using all sorts of different materials giving texture, colour and even smell changes as you moved from one room to the next.
The show was selected for The National Student Drama Festival and transferred to Scarborough in March 2015. Due to the immersive and site specific nature of the show, it had to be redesigned for the space. This was done by Lauren Archer as part of the management of the transfer.Photos: Joseph Priestley
